Merry Christmas Everyone

SFP-Blog-20131216-01

Today’s picture post has a festive theme! Throughout the latter half of December Brisbane’s City Hall is hosting a spectacular projected light show based on The Nutracker. It’s really worth seeing with your own eyes, but for now I’ll leave you with this highlight!

We’ll be taking a break over Christmas, so I’ll return on January 7th with more Tech Hunter. Thanks for keeping up with us over this year, and happy holidays everyone!

Tech Hunter – What Ever Happened to the 50mm Camera?

Hello all,

Today I’m going to start a new series of posts called Tech Hunter. This basically stems from me being the sort of person who spends a lot of time poring over camera equipment blogs to find the latest products. So to save you the trouble of developing your own OCD I thought I’d share some of my observations in a regular post about interesting camera kit.

Let’s start off with this, the 50mm camera. Historically the 50mm camera has been a mainstay of street and journalist photography, which makes me wonder why it seems so scarce among modern cameras and photographers? So I thought I’d see if I could find an awesome 50mm camera that would be perfect for today’s urban hipster, here’s what I found… Continue reading

Brisbane Citycat and Pelican Sculpture

Brisbane Citycat and Pelican Sculpture

Although Brisbane supports many bright, colourful characters, if you look closely there’s always room for quiet ones watching the world pass by without drawing attention to themselves. It’s easy to miss these two, who live near the Maritime Museum come rain or shine, I like to think that the weather doesn’t get them down, despite the potential for rust. Maybe they’re just happy being together

Quick Picks Week 48 2013 – featuring tips for rainy wedding days, photographs of perfect bodies and a film festival.

Quick Picks

This weekend sees the official end of spring here in the southern hemisphere, which means it’s time to think seriously about spending much more time at the beach. So as we work out how we can pack more sun, surf and sand into our schedule, here’s this week’s quick pick of internet finds. As usual, good things come in threes…

Quick Picks Week 47, 2013 – featuring links about our wedding, my favourite art galleries, and birthday presents to make me smile.

Quick Picks

I’ll let you in on a little secret – it’s my birthday today! I’m happily old enough to have learnt to type on a typewriter rather than a computer, and to have been around when Polaroid cameras were new rather than retro. While Quick Picks always provides insights into my personality and my taste, I thought I’d be a little more specifically personal with my links today. As usual, good things come in threes (which also happens to be my favourite number)…

We live in a world filled with possibilities and opportunities. All we need to do is make the most of what’s available to us.
